The honest answer: a massage should not hurt so much that you tense up and grit your teeth. With a tight muscle, some tenderness is normal, and many people describe it as a pleasant ache, but your breathing stays calm and your body relaxed. Anything beyond that is a sign the pressure should be reduced, and you should say so out loud.
The difference is simple. Good tenderness is local, bearable and eases when the therapist lightens up a little. Bad pain makes you hold your breath, tense your shoulder or count the seconds until it is over. That kind of treatment does not help, because the muscle defends itself instead of relaxing. That is why at Fizio Spa the therapist checks the pressure, and you are fully entitled to ask for firmer or lighter at any moment.
The intensity also depends on the type of treatment. A Swedish relaxation massage is gentle and soothing. Therapeutic and sports massages go deeper, so tenderness is to be expected, especially on hard knots. Maderotherapy is the most intense of the aesthetic techniques. In no case is the goal to endure it; the goal is for the treatment to make a difference.
Mild muscle soreness the day after deeper work is normal, similar to the feeling after a workout, and passes within a day or two. If you experience strong pain, unexplained bruising or numbness after the treatment, get in touch so we can see what happened and how to proceed.
Book online via Fresha and write in the note what kind of pressure you like. If you have any questions before booking, there is the contact page and our phone number +381 63 466414.
Fizio Spa is in the centre of Zrenjanin, Trg Slobode 3, hotel Vojvodina, level -1. The team is made up of physiotherapists with more than 20 years of practice, so the pressure is dosed according to the condition of the tissue, not habit or ego.
It may be tender on tight spots, but it should not make you hold your breath and tense up. Pressure is too strong when you cannot stay relaxed under it. As soon as that happens, say so and the therapist will reduce the intensity immediately.
When the pain is new, severe, spreading, or accompanied by numbness and weakness, stronger pressure is not the solution but a risk. In that case an assessment comes first, because the cause may not be the muscle at all. The same applies if you have a condition for which your doctor has advised caution.
Tell us what kind of pressure you usually like, whether you have ever had a massage that left you sore all over, and which areas are sensitive. During the treatment, feel free to say firmer or lighter. That is the most useful feedback a therapist can get.
